STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) has become one of the most important educational focuses in our modern world, and it is a huge part of an Austin Public Schools education. From IJ Holton, our STEM oriented Intermediate School, to a strong focus on technology in the classroom and strategic partnerships with community organizations, APS is dedicated to providing students the opportunity to work with and develop their skills in both science and technology through:
- Technology in the classroom at all levels, including iPads at Woodson, laptops in the classrooms at the elementary level, and a 1:1 program beginning at IJ Holton
- Hands-on science exploration through outdoor classrooms, greenhouses, and school gardens
- On-site technology integrationists to assist with effective technology utilization in the classroom
- Robotics, coding, Project Lead The Way, and partnerships with the University of Minnesota and the Hormel Institute
Today’s fastest growing career opportunities are in STEM fields, and today’s student needs to be well versed in all of those fields. At Austin Public Schools, STEM is a large part of the educational process, and students have a plethora of science and technology options and opportunities available to them.
