I want to be hired to start coaching entry level children at the "Skier Essentials" development level.
You must be 16 years of age on the first day of the course. No exceptions.
Entry Level Course
The 3-day Entry Level course (one day indoor and two days on snow) includes training in free ski and gate drills for SL and GS, planning a daily training session, environment setting, and safety considerations when working with children from the Gliding Start to Skier Essentials stages. Candidates will learn the basics of the Snow Stars program. Practice coaching sessions are part of the course for each candidate.
The evaluation part of the course tests the candidate's ability to demonstrate free skiing skills and Snow Stars drills. Candidates must pass the evaluation to get credit for the course.
Check with your Provincial Sport Organization for evaluation retests if you are not successful the first time.
On successful completion of the course you will achieve an Entry Level TRAINED certification status and become a member of the Alpine Canada Alpin-Canadian Ski Coaches (ACA-CSC).
This certification status will allow you to be hired by a club or ski school to start coaching in an entry level ski racing program.
I want to work with skiers at a club who are at the "Learn to Train" and "Train to Train" stages of development.
Prerequisites Entry Level TRAINED status or Level 1 Certified status AND 18 years old on first day of course OR Entry Level CERTIFIED status (if under 18)
Development Level Course
The Development Level course is an introduction to coaching at the "Learn to Train" and "Learn to Race" levels of development. This 5-day course (1 day indoor and 4 days on snow) includes topics such as slalom and giant slalom basics for U14 and U16 athletes.
I want to work in a club or region with skiers who are at the "Train to Race" stage of athlete development.
Prerequisites Development Level CERTIFIED status
Performance Level Intro 1 Course
The Performance Level Intro 1 course is one of the two possible entry points to the Performance Level coaching program. Topics in this 5-day course (2 days indoor and 3 days on snow) include slalom and giant slalom training and sequencing, course setting, analyzing performance, support for athletes at a race and practice coaching sessions. Other concepts covered on the course include principles of biomechanics, decision making tools and use of video analysis. There is general focus is on core coaching competencies: valuing, leading, interacting with people, problem solving and critical thinking.
Performance Level Intro 2 Course
The Performance Level Intro 2 course is one of the two possible entry points to the Performance Level coaching program. Topics in this 2-day indoor course include advanced planning a training session and designing a year-round program, all in the context of working with athletes at the "train to race" stage of development of Alpine Canada's long term athlete development model. The number of available courses is limited as demand is small.
High performance coaches work with athletes on national teams who are at the "Race to Win" stages of development in the Alpine Canada's LTAD/PARA LTAD long term athlete development pathway.
High Performance Level (HPL) Coach Program
The new Alpine HPL program will be a customized, individualized program that fills knowledge and experience gaps of the coach relating to international, elite athlete development. The targeted coach will undergo a detailed gap analysis aimed to identify competencies needing improvement or development, necessary to deliver on athlete needs in this context.
Please contact ACA-CSC for more HPL program info.
Please note we are in the process of working with NCCP to finalize the pathway and transfer policies of Level 4 coaches to the new HPL coach program. ACA-CSC expects to have a new transfer policy and HPL coach pathway in place by fall of 2018.
