The seminar is being organised in partnership with UCD Global History Seminar Series and will be held at 5pm in K114, School of History, Newman Building, UCD. See poster attached.

The event will showcase innovative, original research currently being pursued by established and early-career researchers working in HSTM in Ireland and abroad.

Conference registration will cost £20 (coffee breaks and lunches are included in this price).

An optional conference dinner will take place on Friday, 18 October, at Made in Belfast, 23 Talbot Street, Belfast BT1 2LD.

There will be an additional charge of £30 for the conference dinner (which must be paid for in advance via the conference registration system).

Introducing our three panelists….
v2ray协议选择 is a physics lecturer at NUI Galway. She is the science reporter for Newstalk’s radio show ‘Futureproof’ and runs Bright Club in Ireland (the variety night for lateral minds). Jessamyn will be speaking about the women involved in the production of the first nuclear weapons or ‘the Manhattan Project’.
Laura Finnegan is a student at the Smurfit Institute of Genetics and recent winner of the Mary Mulvihill Award (the science media competition for third-level students that commemorates the legacy of science journalist and author Mary Mulvihill (1959–2015)). Laura will be discussing her winning art project which celebrates Irish science and will focus on her depictions of women who have made contributions to Irish science in the past.
Rebecca O’Neill is the Project Coordinator for Wikimedia Community Ireland and is the WITS (Women in Science and Technology) representative on the National Committee for Commemorative Plaques in Science and Technology. Rebecca will talk about her work with these organisations to promote the achievements of women in the history of science.

Final call today for registration for the Maynooth Conference in the History of Mathematics.

Registration for the Conference (on August 1st and 2nd) has been extended to Tuesday the 16th of July at 5pm GMT, and you can register through the conference website here

registration is free but compulsory.
Thanks to funding from the British Society for the History of Mathematics, the Irish Mathematical Society, Maynooth University and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Maynooth University.

HSTM Annual Conference at Ulster University (Belfast campus), 18-20 October 2019

For its upcoming conference, the HSTM Network invites proposals on any topics in the history of science, technology and medicine. Topics do not necessarily have to relate to Ireland. Paper submissions should include a 250-word abstract including five key words and mention the name and affiliation (unless independent) of the speaker. Individual presentations should be no more than 20 minutes, with 10 minutes afterwards for questions. Panel submissions should include three papers (each with a 250-word abstract including five key words), a chair if possible, and a 100-word panel abstract. In both cases, please have ‘Abstract 2019 conference’ as your email subject. Confirmation of acceptance should be within a month following the closing date.

The History of Medicine Section of RAMI invite you to attend “Women on Walls” on Wednesday 3rd July 2019

This is an invitation to ALL RAMI Sections not just History of Medicine.  The meeting has been kindly organised by Ms. Mary O’Doherty (Assistant Librarian, Special Collections, RCSI Heritage Collections) who has been a loyal and true member of the History of Medicine Section for many years. 

Time: 17.00 – 19.00 in the Board Room of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, 123, St Stephen’s Green, Dublin 2

The event will commence at 17.00 with a brief account of the newly commissioned portraits of eight medical women, followed by shared reminiscences among those attending of the women they knew.
